Kar98k

The Kar98k is a bolt-action rifle that is essentially a shortened Geweher 98 rifle with a turned bolt. Designed in 1935, the Kar98k soon became the standard rifle of the German military. Over 14 million were produced until the end of World War II, with many becoming cruder as the war went on.
During the attack on the Soviet Union, the Soviets began to use snipers against the Germans. Realizing their potential, the Germans began issuing scoped Kar98ks to troops trained as snipers. These were effective sniper rifles, giving the Germans a good advantage regular troops and making it easier to find and take out enemy snipers.
After WWII was over, the Soviets began exporting the Kak98ks they captured to various Soviet-aligned groups. Even today, Kar98ks can be found in areas such as Iraq and Africa.

In Allied Assault, the Kar98k is the basic bolt-action rifle. It has a five-round integral magazine fed via a stripper clip, great accuracy. The Kar98k can kill a target with one shot to the torso or head can take out a target in one shot. While a somewhat generic rifle, the Kar98k can get things done with no problem, not to mention very good accuracy and range.
Of interest is that the Kar98k can be used in Single Player mode. At Omaha Beach, you can pick one up from a dead troops if you ignore the M1903 Springfield rifle offered to you earlier. You will loose it when you clear the Omaha Beach portion of teh game, so enjoy it while you can.
In vanilla Allied Assault, a scoped variant is the sniper rifle used by the Germans and in Breakthrough, it's used as a sniper rifle by the Italians alongside the Germans as well. The weapon is seen very commonly by the Germans alongside the MP40 submachine gun and is considered the standard issue weapon. The Kar98K is especially deadly if used in large numbers as its shots are enough to throw the player's accuracy off balance and in the levels where snipers are a common threat, can damage the player very severely and even kill him if not careful.
