Thompson submachine gun
From Medal of Honor
The Thompson SMG was used throughout WWII by the American and British forces. Early models were the M1928 Thompson, but as the war progressed it was replaced with the M1 Thompson, which had a slightly different operating mechanism and couldn't accept the infamous 50-round drum.

In Allied Assault, the Thompson does good damage and has a controllable spread as well as decent firepower. More accurate than its German counterpart, the MP40 as well as having a much less recoil. The Thompson is very effective in close combat and clearing out rooms full of enemy soldiers, making it a 'sweep-and-clear' weapon. While not very common to find it in missions, the player often starts with one. Of course, like all submachine guns, it should not be relied for long-range combat though still does have a better chance of hitting a target far away than the MP40.

Pretty much the exact same as the Allied Assault one, only it has terrible accuracy. Even with burst firing, you'll eat up ammo trying to take out an enemy from even medium range. A 50-round drum Thompson also exists, but in single player, it appears at the end of the Makin Atoll raid in a little shack, and on patrol on the Lunga river on Guadalcanal, you can also select it in multiplayer.
Strangely, the Thompson in this game is supposed to have a higher rate of fire. This was a 1928 version which means it fires about 800-900 RPM. The Thompson in PA looks like it fires 600-700 RPM.
