Type 38 rifle
From Medal of Honor
The Type 38 is a Japanese rifle adopted by the Imperial Japanese Army in 1905. It was the main battle rifle of the Imperial Japanese Army. Chinese forces during the Chinese Civil War used the Type 38 even after Japan's surrender. It's final appearance in a formal war was in Korea, where it served with the People's Volunteer Army in 7.62x39mm caliber.
[edit] In-game
The Type 38 is the standard rifle used by troops. It's almost everywhere, providing an excellent weapon is case one of you run out of ammo and you can't find any ammo boxes. It is also considerably much larger than other bolt action rifles in terms of length and is armed with a bayonet, making it a very effective weapon in close combat. The Japanese forces use the bayonet extensively, often insanely charging towards the player if they're close enough. A few stabs is often enough to throw the player off balance.
It is described of having somewhat poor accuracy due to poor ammo and lack of proper cleaning in the jungles but this is conpensated for its brutal firepower.
